Why Join? AAUW is a dynamic national organization with a long history of affecting change on the issues women care about: education, civil rights, equity in the workplace and on college campuses, reproductive rights, and gender discrimination. AAUW is a nationwide network of more than 170,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches, and 800 college/university institution partners. Learn more at the AAUW National website.
Who May Join? Membership is open to anyone who holds an associate college degree or higher. Students working toward a qualifying degree may become student affiliates.
What Does AAUW San Jose Membership Offer You? At the San Jose Branch, you join over 330 women who offer friendship with like-minded women and an arena for making a positive contribution to your community.
Members can choose from several Interest Groups – from book discussion to gourmet cooking to genealogy to art appreciation. Programs throughout the year focus on relevant issues of the day such as misrepresentation of women in the media; women in leadership; the gender pay gap and negotiating salaries; and creating a different world for girls in the future.
Members connect to their community through Community Action Projects. Community partners include Sacred Heart Community Service, Santa Maria Urban Ministry, Family Supportive Housing, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence, John Muir Middle School, and Santa Clara County Office of Women’s Policy.
Members advocate for societal change through the Public Policy Committee, which has studied the California budget and initiative process to promote reform. Partners include League of Women Voters and Coalition for Equal Pay.
